Need lunch before discovering the life of King René or the hangings of the Apocalypse? Feeling peckish after your visit to the château? Here are our top restaurants and bars to try out in the immediate area!
A gourmet break in front of the Château d'Angers
La Promenade lives up to its name. Located on the Promenade du bout du monde, literally in front of the drawbridge of the Château d'Angers, this little haven of peace offers quality crêpes, great hot chocolates and organic ice creams to visitors in the mood for a gourmet break. Take your pick from a tasting with a breathtaking view of the château from the terrace or the peace and quiet of the pretty inner courtyard.
A crêpe just a stone's throw from the château?
Just take the little rue Saint-Aignan and you'll come across one of the best crêperies in Angers. Paved and pedestrianised, this narrow street in the medieval town leads to this pretty restaurant, with its warm, cosy decor.
On the plate, the Crêperie du Château's excellent reputation has remained constant over the years. Original savoury galettes, well-stuffed sweet crêpes: Angevins and day-trippers alike love it! The price of success: it's best to book ahead!
Tip: if it's full, we recommend the Marie Mil'goules crêperie, also a stone's throw from the château. At the end of a cul-de-sac, this former cabinetmaker's workshop is a great address with an original decor full of charm.
For a quick lunch break near the château
If you're feeling peckish and looking for a quick bite to eat, we've got just the place! Shortly after the restaurant Osé, in the same rue Toussaint, we recommend the Dos de la cuillère. This small chain offers simple dishes, tasty tarts and sweet cakes, and original hot and cold drinks. Everything is homemade using the finest ingredients... You'll feel right at home for lunch or a snack! It's small, so make sure you book.
Have a drink or a coffee, and more if you like!
Other places not to be missed in the immediate vicinity of the castle are the Gupta's and Chez Pont-Pont bars and restaurants. The terraces of these two establishments are well worth a visit, especially for a coffee or cocktail with a view of the castle towers and the Promenade du bout du monde. Chez Pont-Pont is at the foot of the monument, while Gupta's takes in the sights in a magnificent old house with a hanging garden. In both cases, the setting is magnificent!
