Between woods, alluvial meadows and fish-filled rivers, Briollay is nestled at the heart of the Basses Vallées Angevines, a site unique in Europe for its flora and thousands of migratory birds, listed as part of the Natura 2000 network for the preservation of remarkable natural spaces.

Created in 2012, the educational marsh is a scale model of the Basses Vallées Angevines. Here, plants thrive in their natural environment and disappear according to the seasons as flowering periods follow one after the other – from April to September. The central part is cut late to promote corn crake reproduction, while areas off the path are left as they are to simulate the evolution of abandoned grasslands, rich in perennial species (marshmallow, dyer's broom, etc.). Meanwhile, the pond and its surroundings offer up a favourable environment for reeds, aquatic grasses, buttercups and speedwells.

The educational marsh is a protected environment. Put your photography skills to the test to capture the best profile of local flora, as the picking of flowers and plants is forbidden.

A map of the educational marsh is available online or in the town hall.
