From Plessis-Bourré to the Lower Anjou Valleys

  • This long hike (more than 25 kilometres) can be realised in two loops: the first one is 14 kilometres long and starts in Briollay and the second one starts in Écuillé and is 17 kilometres long.

  • This long walk takes you along the trail of the educational marsh in Briollay to discover the plants of the Lower Anjou Valleys, then to see a rare example of gothic ‘Plantagenêt-style’ architecture. You will also see the impressive Plessis-Bourré Castle in Écuillé.

    - The plants educational marsh of the low valleys of Angers, in Briollay, gives you the opportunity to discover, in the same place, all plants that can be found in those low valleys. You will find explanations about the “medical” properties of those herbs, mistakenly considered as weeds in our gardens.
    - Briollay has a rare example of preserved “Plantagenêt” architecture for civilian use from the 12th century, in front of the church. A must-see location!
    - The château de Plessis-Bourré in Ecuillé has one particularity: its “Transitional” style. It has characteristics of a fortress from the end of the Middle Ages with its defensive system with the Renaissance elegance. The château was also a film location for the production of two movies: “Donkey skin” and “Fanfan la Tulipe”.
